I’ve lived in downtown for nearly 6 years now. Some days I feel like I know a lot about this city…and other days I have moments where I find myself humbled at the realisation that there is so much I’ve yet to see and explore. I had one of these humbling experiences recently when I had the pleasure of staying at the Radisson Admiral Harbourfront for a much-needed staycation.
Okay a little background here: my boyfriend and I have always shared a queen sized bed, but last year we adopted a puppy…and subsequently lost a third of our sleeping space. I’ve personally never loved our mattress and sleeping with a man who’s over 6 feet tall, and a dog with ZERO spatial awareness was making me love it even less. We don’t really have enough space for a king size bed, so my options at home are a bit limited. Needless to say…I needed a night away.
Ever since that lunch, and spending my afternoon on the Splash Patio…I’d had the hotel on my mind for a #staycation. Okay, so maybe I was borderline obsessed and ready to move in, but trust me you’ll see why!
For starters, the Splash Patio at the Radisson is the only place in the city I’ve ever seen that not only has a stunning CN Tower view…but it’s also right on the waterfront’s edge. There’s a completely unobstructed view of the cruise ships partying into the night and planes from Billy Bishop Airport taking off into the morning. Sounds amazing right?!
The first time I went, I couldn’t believe I’d never taken advantage of this amazing hidden gem before! Who knew there was such an incredible urban oasis only 15 minutes from my apartment? The Radisson also provides day passes to their Splash Patio & Pool for non-hotel guests for only $45 CAD…and that includes your towel service! It’s a really fantastic feature to offer visitors who aren’t overnight guests…and one, not all downtown hotels (with pools) are gracious enough to offer. And I say this from experience working in the industry 😉 .
Everything about Splash Patio has a very tropical and nautical vibe, from the lush floral arrangements to the Miami-style ambience at night…I almost felt like I was on a cruise. Especially when you add the phenomenal staff into the mix! The Splash cabana girls are so fun, charismatic and genuinely helpful…their energy really added to the relaxed vibe of the patio.
Beyond being extremely attentive, the staff also totally indulged me when I asked them what their most popular drinks were, and what they might recommend. Being the wino that I am, I was super pumped to hear their sangrias are a favourite amongst guests, and I chose to go with the Stonefruit Peach Sangria. I was pleasantly surprised to see it came with a healthy serving of peach schnapps in addition to the other yummy ingredients, and that was the only drink I needed for the night LOL. Yes, I’m a lightweight 😀 .
Located on the same level as the patio is The Radisson Admiral’s Watermark restaurant and bar lounge. I had a huge craving for Mama’s Pizza (which was 2 seconds from the hotel) so I didn’t actually end up eating at Watermark, but I did end up going wayyy past dinner time…which just happens to be prime photo op time 🙂 . So I got to capture the beauty and details, without taking pictures of strangers eating…which I’m sure is appreciated by said strangers haha!
Taking it back to Splash Patio for a hot minute… I could have stayed out there all night. It was one of the most peaceful evenings I’ve had in a long time. Oh, not to mention the pool was heavenly, it was seriously like bath water…it was absolute perfection! The beautiful white canopy lounge section was beautifully decorated with string lights and an incredible icosahedron fixture that I desperately wanted to bring home with me hehe! I won’t lie, I got romanced by Splash Patio that night, it was just plain…magical.
The hotel was fairly quiet by the time I went back downstairs, and I truly felt like I had the beautiful Titanic style staircase to myself. It was breathtaking, and I spent a long time just wandering around in awe of all the sparkle. The interior stairwell makes you feel as though you’re inside a ship of spectacular grandeur…and grand it was! All I needed was a ball gown and Leo DiCaprio to complete the scene 😀 .
Finally, back in my room, I took a shower, turned on some old school R&B and danced around my extremely spacious room! Seriously, even the bathroom was larger than I expected… I could have fit at least six people in that shower! And I won’t deny, it was nice having the whole bathroom counter to myself for a change 😀 . (#Sorrynotsorry , boyfriend!)
And the mirrors in my room’s hallway! OHHHH THE MIRRORS. I’m talking floor to ceiling, and wider than my arm span. Yet another thing I wanted to steal for my place! The colour scheme, which I’m officially calling “Seabreeze” was pretty much the icing on the decor cake. I’m a visual person who’s naturally drawn to aesthetics, so this room was a dream for my creative mind. The crisp seas of white linens and pillows mixed with the vivid turquoise accent wall and cushions was a total delight for the eyes. The headboard also had a thin strip of built-in backlighting, that you can control, and it added so much to the ambience. If the colour scheme was the icing on the cake, that backlighting was the cherry on top!
I was also pleasantly surprised to see I had a dead-center view of the CN Tower, right from my hotel room window! I have a view of the tower from my apartment, but this view, well it put mine to SHAME. Laying in bed, it almost seemed like I could reach out and touch it.
Fun fact; my boyfriend read that last line and told me I needed to have my depth perception checked out LOL! Okkkkayyy bro 😀
Anyways, back to bed 🙂 . I was lucky enough to have a second bed in my room, but no extra guest…so I did the only logical thing, I moved ALL the pillows to my bed. Yes, I slept with EIGHT pillows. I basically slept on a cloud, hugged by cloud babies. Ok…that analogy got weird. The point is…my body became one with that bed and it was everything.
I ended up staying up until almost 3am because I don’t have cable at home so this was my chance to binge watch HGTV. But hey, it was my staycation and I’ll have a cable party if I want to 😉 .
Speaking of staycation treats, if you’re into mani/pedis there’s a fantastic place right across the street from the hotel that I actually couldn’t find on Google when I looked ahead of time, another hidden gem 🙂 . I didn’t realise the salon was even there, but the Radisson had been kind enough to recommend it…and I was SO happy they did! I got my first pedi of the season…yes, it’s halfway through July. I’m late, as always 😀 . Anyways, it’s aptly called Harbour Nails…and make sure if you get a pedicure you take advantage of the massage chairs. My pedicure ran me $25 anddd the salon offers discounts when you pay with cash as opposed to a card, so there’s a sneaky pro tip to help you save a little 😉 .
I don’t spend a lot of time at the Harbourfront…so I was genuinely amazed at how many things there were to do while I was exploring the neighbourhood in the evening! Free nightly outdoor concerts, independent market vendors, paddle-boating, dinner cruises, HTO Beach, and a wide variety of restaurants are just a few of the highlights in the area. I wanted to spend more of my time in the hotel taking advantage of the amenities, but I did explore long enough to treat myself to a post-pedicure slice of pizza and gelato from a place called Lick It Gelato.
When I arrived, there was only one person in line, but that quickly changed and after a quick Google search I realised the line up was no coincidence. This place is definitely a favourite among locals in the area who often grab a cone and a seat on one of the large Muskoka chairs in the park next door. I opted for a double scoop of Earl Gray and Lime Rosemary…but I was super tempted by the Marscapone flavour, and will probably head back sometime soon to try it!
The next morning, I was really sad to be leaving after such an incredibly relaxing night, but I was also crazy grateful to be spending Monday morning waking up in this seabreeze urban oasis.
As far as Monday’s go, this one pretty much tops them all! I had total staycation brain and ended up (pretty hilariously) messing up my morning coffee from the ensuite Keurig. BUT, for a normal person who can make a cup of coffee without error…the in room Keurig is a sweet feature! My room came with a great selection of coffee and tea pods in both decaf and regular for all moods and energy levels. I think it’s safe to say I felt incredibly pampered, spoiled and cared for. Lucky for me there’s also a full Starbucks in the hotel lobby so I opted to grab a coffee made by someone more capable 😀 .
I’m not much of a breakfast person, but I loved that there were breakfast menu door hangers laid out for me to make a meal selection for the next morning. It was super simple too, you just check off what time you’d like your food delivered, make your meal selections and leave it hanging outside your door by 2am. Such an efficient system!
I could go on forever, but the reality is my words and photos won’t do The Radisson Admiral justice, and you need to see it for yourself. Just ask my fellow blogger buddy, Vicki of Florals and Teacups! I was lucky enough to have her take a couple of photos for me (like the two you see above), and was SO thrilled that she saw the same magic in this place that I do! Whether you’re a local looking for a sweet summer patio spot or someone visiting from out of town, this place will completely take your breath away…all while making you feel right at home. I think that’s actually the thing I loved the most, it felt like home.
But in my case, just a fancier, comfier, more pampered version 😀
Special thanks to The Radisson Admiral and all the hard working staff who made my staycation a night I won’t soon forget!
Here’s A few extra shots from my IG Stories 🙂 (but first, some fun legal shhhtufff).
For the purpose of this review & in the interest of full disclosure (honesty first guys!), I must let you know that I was gifted a complimentary night at The Radisson Admiral for my recent staycation. While I was fortunate enough to have this experience, I want you to know that all opinions expressed here are purely my own and based on a genuinely wonderful evening. Actually, if we’re getting super real here, I used to work in a luxury Toronto hotel, so suffice to say…I tend to be a bit more critical when exploring other properties in the city. Essentially, you can bet, if I have something nice to say…it’s legit 😉 .
