In celebration of the warmer weather finally gracing Toronto with its presence (and instantly filling patios, everywhere) I decided to share some fun and easy cocktail recipes with you guys! In the past year, I’ve become pretty obsessed with all things floral; prints, arrangements, flavour…I love all of it. I’ve always had a thing for anything rose or lavender scented, but it wasn’t until recently that I realised the sheer range of potential for these dainty little flowers.
Having always thought of these flowers as just that, flowers…plants that you pick and give to your mum or girlfriend, I never really thought that they had a place in my food. It all started when I learned the benefits of Rosewater, beauty wise. I came to learn that not only could I apply this beautifully scented water topically, but I could also use it in cooking recipes. Hell, it’s kept in the grocery aisles of my local Loblaw’s so just goes to show how little I knew. I started adding it to certain recipes and enjoyed what it brought to a meal. I then decided it was time to add a splash of it to some drinks…particularly the variety that included alcohol 😀 .
During this experimentation with rose water, I also became curious about how edible some of my other favourite flowers were. I realise what I just said there, let’s not make it weird 😛 . I discovered 2 wonderful things through my odd curiosity; my usual Rosewater brand also makes Orange Blossom water and lavender is totally edible. I mean, don’t just like eat the plant. I’m sure that would be bad for you or at least frowned upon by those around you.
If there is no one around you, please send me a message and I will encourage you not to eat the plant.
MOVING ON. I’m in a weird a mood 🙃, that’s what happens when you create content about cocktails and end up making multiple at once 🍹.
So with all of our new found knowledge of edible plants, I now present to you my fun and easy floral based cocktail mixes!
Note: I’m a wine girl, and always have been because I find it so easily mixable, and frankly it’s (for some reason) least likely to make me feel like shit the next day. Except for gin, I always trust gin. Anyways! FEEL FREE TO SUBSTITUTE YOUR OWN TYPE OF ALCOHOL or none at all 🙃 .
Lavender Pomegranate Lemonade
1 tbsp Lavender Syrup (Dee’s Crushed Lavender Syrup instructions here )
3/4 cup sparkling wine, I’m using Joiy for mine because it has an impeccably light flavour, but you can really use any brand.
1/2 can of San Pellegrino Melgrano e Arancia (Pomegranate & Orange), or any preferred, similar, sparkling flavoured fruit drink.
1/3 lemon, thinly sliced
Mix everything together, toss in some ice, grab a straw and cheers yourself! I garnished mine with extra lemon slices and a passionfruit flavoured Sour Patch kid, cause I’m classy 😎 .
Strawberry Rosewater RosÉ on Ice
1 tsp of rosewater (or more if desired!), I got mine at Loblaw’s for $3 but it should be available at most grocers.
1 handful of sliced strawberries ( I like to use frozen ones cause they double as ice cubes #themoreyouknow)
1 cup of your favourite rosé, preferably sparkling
Mix everything together, toss in some ice, grab a straw and…well, you know 🍻
Rosemary Orange Blossom Punch
1 tsp orange blossom water (or more if desired!), I got mine at Loblaw’s for $3 but it should be available at most grocers.
3/4 can of San Pellegrino Aranciata Rossa (Blood Orange), or any preferred, similar, sparkling flavoured fruit drink.
1 fresh sprig of rosemary
1 cup of your favourite white or rose wine, but preferably sparkling
Mix everything together, add a fresh sprig of rosemary…and you know the rest 😉 .
Please Enjoy Responsibly!
Fun is fun until it’s not and then it sucks, so just be safe, k?
